Is a variable speed cooling 2 stage heating system worth the cost, or am I wasting my money?
Carl
Tom: I personally don’t think it’s worth the cost. A lot of people like a lot of bells and whistles and if you want to spend the money you can, but quite frankly it’s- the energy savings it’s touted, a lot of the advantages that are touted really don’t happen here in the Houston area, but it’s totally up to you if you want to do it. I would not do it myself. I think just changing to a new standard system today from one that’s 20+ years old, your energy savings is going to be tremendous as it is.
Charlie: So this is something that’s better for other parts of the country?
Tom: It is. For milder parts, you know. We get hot, it’s hot out and we want it cold so it’s going to cool and that’s just the bottom line.
Charlie: And the same thing with the heating?
Tom: The heating doesn’t matter to us that much. Why spend a lot of money to save a little when heating, even though we had kind of a cold winter this year, really doesn’t mean a lot to us. We’re such babies, you know? Two weeks out of the year it gets cold and we all whine, but besides that it’s not the savings you’re going to find unless you are heating 6 to 7 months out of the year.
