Is there such a thing as a filter that goes on the water hose to a washing machine? Have a friend with a water well, and she can’t afford a whole home water softener system, but she’s having to replace her washing machine due to problems caused by hard water.

Tom: There’s not a water softener that goes there no.
Charlie: Okay, okay.
Tom: You ask about a filter though, inside your washing machine, the hose connection, there’s a little screen with a washer on there, and that screen needs to be cleaned out regularly. If you ever find your washing machine filling slower and slower whether it’s cold or hot, you’ll know which one. It’s going to be because that filter’s getting full of dirt because you don’t want those granules and that dirt from your pipes getting into the washing machine itself; it’ll cause problems.
Charlie: There’s one on the drain side too; catches all the … We have one on our machine that’s on the drain side.
Tom: On the drain side?
Charlie: Yeah. It catches …
Tom: I’ve never seen that.
Charlie: Yeah, and we had to drain it one day. You could milk cats faster.
