My house needs the foundation repaired. Every company I talk to has their own proprietary method that they swear is the best (and all other methods are junk). Is there any place that offers objective research on the reliability of the various methods for the Houston area? Maybe A&M? I’ve found papers by various professional engineers on the Internet, but they all seem to recommend the method used by the company that they work for.

Tom: I’m sure there might be some, but not as on the specifics as this gentleman’s talking about. He’s talking about the Ultra-Pile systems for instance, that do Du-West has and some of the steel driven I-beams that a lot of the companies use and I can go on and on; bell-bottom piers and then sometimes, one is the best way to do it for one house and not the other, so it depends on the situation. The most important thing is you get a good company with a lot of experience, with a lot of time-tested projects under their belt and I think that’s the best way to go, but you’re not going to find independent anything, especially on the internet.
