Charlie : Jeff from Wallaceville says, “The driveway at my new home has a chalky substance that can be seen on the soles of my shoes after walking on it. Shows up on dark clothing. How do I get …” And especially what he says, when he changes the oil in his truck, he says, “It’s about 11 months old. What can I do about this?” Is this efflorescence your seeing Tom?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: No, it’s chalking. What they did was, it’s a new concrete pour and they brought too much of the fine material to the top and now it’s dusting on him. And there’s not a lot you can do about it right now. It eventually will wear away. If you want to try to lessen the dusting of it, you can put on a masonry water proofer, that’ll last a while. And eventually it’s going to wash away.
Charlie : The water proofer will wash away?
Tom: That’ll wash away too, unfortunately. But it’ll all eventually wash away.
Charlie : Okay. So you can just power wash this off and we’re done?
Tom: You could. You can accelerate the washing of it. So that could help a little bit. But right now, it’s just the top is dusting.
