Charlie:
Rodney has one that he sent to us. He says he has a friend, a woman, who has a 600 square feet house. She’s added about 650 more square feet to it. It’s up in Fayette County with a flat roof and no attic space, and she wants to get an 18,000 BTU split unit in there. She got a quote for a split unit for about a 2-ton HVAC system for this addition she was doing. Supposedly, it was only going to take about 12 feet of duct work, which I thought those things had no duct work.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
They’re not supposed to have any duct work, no. You have a split system and you have ductless split system, so it might be a little hybrid she’s getting.
Charlie:
He wants us to comment on the price. I know we don’t do that, maybe you can explain why we don’t. The 18,000 BTU split unit is for the 600 square foot part of the house. She’s built an addition …
Tom:
So, another 18.
Charlie:
Right and they’re going to put 2 tons our there.
Tom:
OK. Actually, that’s good. She’s got enough capacity. I’m not going to comment on pricing. I never do because whatever price I say I could be too low or too high. Then, you’re either going to feel like you’re getting ripped off of you end up getting taken, so I just don’t do it on the air. As far as the tonnage and what she’s doing, I think it’s great.
Charlie:
I think the best way to check their price, Rodney, is just get a couple more estimates.
Tom:
Absolutely.
