CHARLIE: Brad in Cypress says in a period of about 2 or 3 months, the capacitor, and those are no laughing matter, the capacitor on his outside blower motor had to be replaced. They just replaced their entire AC system last summer. He says our heaters have gone through 3 PC boards. They replaced the entire unit upstairs. Now we’re getting the same symptoms again. We’re having no electrical issues but we’re going to have the service checked anyway. What could be causing this Tom?
TOM: I want to say initially, and I could be wrong on this, that it was the install. It’s just not put together right and when something isn’t put together right, problems keep coming up.
CHARLIE: Just check out the show.
TOM: Replacing parts is not always the answer. Capacitors do go bad, not a big deal. All it is, it just regulates electricity going through the motor. The board part bothers me but sometimes you get a bad board but to have 3 of them makes me think that there’s something else that’s much worse happening than that and that might be again the install. So, what I would do at this point, it’s a new unit, call a representative or ask to have a representative sent out of the brand.
CHARLIE: Of the brand, not the company, not the distributor, go right to the brand.
TOM: Yeah, have a rep come out, even with a contractor. They all have contractors or reps that they deal with, whether it’s Carrier or Trane or whatever the case may be and see if they can give a little insight on this ongoing problem. It should not be happening.
