Charlie: Monica in Garden Oaks says, “I would like to use The Great Stuff insulating foam sealant to spray inside my hollow door to make it better with soundproofing. Although it may take a lot, and I’ve heard it’s highly flammable stuff, would you recommend handling it this way or do you have another suggestion?”
Tom: The problem with that foam is, is once you spray it in there and you think you have enough, it starts to expand. So you’re going to be giving your door giant breast implants on both sides.
Charlie: Okay, and you can’t even take it on a date.
Tom: No, and you can’t stop it. It will just keep growing, it’s true, too. It grows, and it grows, and it grows, you’re going to be stuck against the wall on the other side of the room until the door explodes. It will make a great video, Charlie. After we get her out of the emergency room, we’ll take her over to Door Clearance Center and buy her a solid core door. That stuff has this expandable property that will blow wood right off a wall, so no that’s not a good idea.
